AMPAH 2022

The Annual Meeting of Postgraduates in Ancient History (AMPAH) provides students with the opportunity to share their research and network with their peers.

The upcoming edition will be held in Barcelona and will be hosted by the School of Geography and History of the University of Barcelona (UB).

Barcelona

Located on the north-eastern coast of Spain, Barcelona is a major European city known for its historically cosmopolitan nature and rich cultural background. With more than 2.000 years of history, it has all the attributes of a modern urban centre but also the historical heritage of an ancient settlement.

In Barcelona, the newcomer will enjoy the latest trends in fashion, leisure and architecture surrounded by the centuries-old Roman and Medieval old town. It is, thus, the perfect place to host a meeting of new generations of professionals and students in Ancient history, where new approaches to a very old field can be shared with peers and more established scholars.

The University of Barcelona

Ranked among the top 50 in the 2020 QS World University Rankings, the University of Barcelona is a world-class academic institution focused on the study of the Ancient World, particularly the Classical period.

An institution with history

The Universitat de Barcelona was founded in the mid 15th century, becoming the 4th oldest university in Spain.

From 1714 to 1837 the institution was closed by the Bourbon dynasty after the War of the Spanish Succession. After this long period, the poor condition of the building and the inadequacy of the facilities forced the rector, Víctor Arnau, to request a new building, which was commissioned to the architect Elias Rogent in 1859.

The School of Geography and History

The Faculty of Geography and History of the University of Barcelona was created in 1974 as a result of the reorganization of the former Faculty of Philosophy and Arts located in the Historic Building.

In 2006, it was relocated to the Raval Campus, in the historic centre of Barcelona, and since then the School of Geography and History has offered to its students a great variety of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in fields such as Anthropology, Archaeology and History, as well as in Art History and Geography.
